India’s Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju has requested the authorities to intervene the elimination of shooting from the 2022 Commonwealth Games at Birmingham over.
India won seven gold medals from the game at the 2018 Games.
But it’s been excluded in the Games for the first time since 1970.
At an letter into Nicky Morgan, he wrote:”The public takes keen interest .”
His correspondence with the secretary of state for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport also noticed that India constitutes more than half of 2.4 billion people of their 53-nation Commonwealth.
While he added that”the International Mobility Federation [ISSF] has offered to discuss the cost for addition of shooting Birmingham.
“It appears the choice to exclude shooting is based on the premise that shooting hadn’t ever been a compulsory sport and there is no place available for holding shooting events.”
Shooting was included in each Games apart from one because 1966 (Edinburgh in 1970), but is not one of their event’s’core sports’.
Shooting – combined with Para-table tennis, beach volleyball, cricket and archery – expressed its wish.
An assessment panel comprised of representatives from authorities, in addition to Birmingham 2022’s organising committee and Commonwealth England, was set up to assess each game’s case.
However, in June, Birmingham 2022 declared that beach volleyballtennis and women’s cricket was successful.
The move has proved controversial, using all India threatening to boycott the event if the sport isn’t reinstated.
India topped the table for shooting at the 2018 Games in Australia, asserting 16 medals from the area as part of their general tally of 66 awards.
