Sky Sports Scotland pundit Kris Boyd reflects Rangers appointment of Ross Wilson as sporting director and examines what it means for your club.
Wilson, who left his job in Southampton, substituted Mark Allen, who abandoned his position as director of soccer following two years in Glasgow a month at Ibrox.
He also spent four-and-a-half years at the Saints after operating in various roles and can return to begin working alongside director Steven Gerrard month.
Wilsons role will see him dealing with all the clubs operations andsoccer infrastructure and Boyd, who won two Scottish titles, two Scottish Cups and two League Cups at his time with the team, considers Rangers have made a sound appointment.
If you look at what Ross has done from Falkirk to Southampton lots of people may say he had the money to invest Southampton, but he did not possess that in Falkirk, he explained.
Its is a fantastic prospect for him to come back up the road, it is exciting times in Rangers. Theres not any doubt hes got a knack.
Some may say that there were already some people in the construction when he arrived in Southampton but in which they were searching in that market its extremely difficult to go and find the top, top players, and, yes, you are likely to get a few wrong.
But at Rangers there is an opportunity, especially in Scotland, to proceed and get into great players and Im confident with the networks and contacts hes obtained he can do an excellent job for the club and hopefully thats true since, for a variety of years, theres been a lot of wasted cash at there.
He added:I expect he moves in and does not forget who the football club are, when it comes to trying to change everything behind the scenes.
For me personally, Mark Allen likely tried to change a lot of things behind the scenes which were fairly irrelevant. The one thing that fans care are effects about the pitch and it is up to Rangers as a soccer club to provide now and I feel as though they have got the platform to do this year.
Despite building an impressive CV down south, Wilson is only 36 years old – three years younger than Gerrard, so does Boyd think that can play a part?
No, it is a professional company, Boyd said. Steven Gerrard wants help regarding having the ability to bounce things off of people. So he understands what it requires, ross Wilson was at work in Southampton for a couple of years.
Having healthy conversation is good – the last thing you would like is people believing theyre better where they are in the soccer club and I believe that was possibly the event the last time because some of those stories you hear werent fantastic.
I think the sporting director knows his role, understands what he needs to do. Im sure he and Steven Gerrard will have discussions daily but as long as Rangers are winning matches of football subsequently Ross Wilsons job is simple.
