In an appearance on Access on Monday, Johnson touched for example, inclusion of Guru Bowl-level ability to help retool the defense, most notably safety Eric Weddle, in 2019.
“He’s just a genius. I have not seen anybody like him,” stated the 23-year-old Johnson of the savvy veteran. “I have not been in the league long but I understand he’s a special one and I’m eager to see what we can do. Not just the way that it can make me better but I’m eager to find out what he and I can do for this entire defense.”

Weddle, 34, signed with the Rams after being released by the Ravens in March. Throughout his 12-year profession, he was the NFL interceptions pioneer in 2011 — 2011, 2013 and 2014 with the Chargers and 2016-18 with the Ravens — and has been named to six Pro Bowls.
As a starter in 2018, Johnson started in all 16 games and donated 119 tackles and 11 pass deflections. When he intercepted Drew Brees in overtime to help push the Rams to Super Bowl LIII and on past the Saints, his highlight of the season came in the NFC Championship Game.
During his TA appearance, Johnson was also asked to reflect the way the team has been able to refocus after falling to the New England Patriots 13-3 back. His response indicated a team that’s dead set on getting back to the game in 2020.
“I would not say it is amnesia but I really do think we turned into the page. This is a group. We lost men, we obtained free brokers, rookies, undrafted free agents; this is a whole new team,” he explained. “We must start fresh, we understand exactly what it takes to get there, we know we must do more to win it.
“I think that it’s just turning the page, beginning fresh but it’s definitely a little more fuel to lead up to this year, for certain.”
