It was another nighttime for Cristiano Ronaldo, even though Robbie Keane’s finest efforts to steer him off.
The Juventus netted four goals since Portugal beat Lithuania to take his total tally to 25 in European non – than the record.
Before the match, Keane requested Ronaldo to”abandon this one” after heading from the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was just two goals off from his record.
“I believe you have enough records, Cristiano!” Keane joked on Instagram.
But after scoring against his distinct team for country and club, there was no stopping Ronaldo netting his eighth global hat-trick and stealing the limelight.
Ronaldo can also be the first European to score 90 objectives for his nation and has scored 16 supporting the world record of Iran legend Ali Daei, 93 global objectives in men’s football.
The 34-year-old is the top scorer in European Union.
He has netted 34 goals including nine in tournaments – in complete, and it is a joint-record using Frenchman Michel Platini.
Those goals came in the semi-final success over Wales – 2016 and 2004, 2008, 2012 – with one in four consecutive tournaments during Portugal’s title-winning campaign three decades back.
No European has scored more goals in aggressive fixtures, with Ronaldo netting 72.
And also his tally of 30 targets in Western World Cup qualifying is another album.
Ronaldo has netted while playing for country and clubs.
Just under a third of those have been contrary to other countries (40), while just 17 are in friendly games.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has a knack for leaving it also, with 26 of the 93 targets coming in the past 15 minutes.
He has scored more goals with his head (25) compared with his left foot (22) and in the 61 games he’s scored in, Portugal have gone on to lose only five of them, winning 51.
Interestingly – outside punishment shootouts – Ronaldo hasn’t scored against England, Germany, Italy or giants France.
He’s scored five goals from Andorra, Armenia, Latvia and Sweden – over every other country.
Iran’s Daei, who played with 2007 and 1995, is the sole player in men’s soccer to own outscored Ronaldo on the stage.
His tally of all 109 goals in all matches, such as friendlies, is 16 more than Ronaldo’s 93 in 160 appearances.
A former priest of Iran, Daei played for clubs Bayern Munich and Hertha BSC with a striker, before proceeding to the United Arab Emirates.
Back in 1996, Daei scored 20 goals in 18 looks that were worldwide and he netted double figures from 2004 and 2000, 2001.
From the conclusion of the 1996 Asian Cup, he had scored 29 goals in 38 appearances for Iran and that he was top of the scoring charts at the end of the 1998 World Cup qualifying campaign.
He became the first player to score and also scored four goals at a World Cup qualifier against Laos a century of goals in global competition.
Ronaldo does not look like slowing down any time and that he stated he managed to perform for another seven years, this past year.
“Right now I have an old age of 23. I have still got a long time left, I can keep playing until I am 41,” he said in May.
If that’s the case, Ronaldo could be competing in three more Nations Leagues, two European Championships and two World Cups – not to mention qualifying games across friendlies and those tournaments in between.
He already has four European qualifying matches lined up in November and October.
In a goalscoring speed of more than one goal in each two matches, Ronaldo may need 32 games to break the all-time album of Daei.
