When you’ve got no shot (and no apparent want ) to win many matches, let alone an NBA title, you have got to take solace from the little victories.
On Oct. 22, 13 of the league’s 30 owners voted against a lottery reform program which would have reduced the possibilities for teams using the very worst documents to snag the very best selections. That decision was a bullet dodged for overall manager Sam Hinkie’s Sixers and an unexpected one.
Based on John Finger of all CSNPhilly.com,”lottery reform was viewed as a foregone conclusion” a day before the vote that struck down the strategy. The 76ers, clearly, were among the most vehement opponents of the possible change, and it is hard to blame them.
Switching things up in midstream would have had an especially negative effect on their rebuilding plans.
Even though lottery reform is going to likely be revisited again, the Sixers made a small reprieve.
Oh, and hello, Michael Carter-Williams, reigning Rookie of the Year and last season’s only beacon of hope, finally has a return date out of his unusually long recovery following knee operation: Nov. 13, per Jeff Goodman of ESPN.com.
Nerlens Noel resembles a menace in training. Joel Embiid is probably the best player in his draft class.
