Former captain Ryan Jones considers the Wales team have been given”a massive elevator” before the Rugby World Cup, after 15,000 individuals flocked to see their open training session in Kitakyushu.
Wales arrived at the arena where they are training from locals, and are located in the southern Japanese city, which will not host any matches during the tournament.
The staff of warren Gatland get their tournament under way on Monday, September 23 from Georgia, and Grand Slam winner Jones says will benefit the players.
“I’ve never experienced anything like this in my career. It’s astonishing and it’s been really emotional,” said Jones, who played for Wales from 2004-2014.
“It’s been hosting a celebration. This morning, we got up and we said’oh, I hope individuals will develop and it goes well now’.
“Then to see the queues and then to see the gamers’ faces when they came out, it was just magic.
“It’s surpassed our expectations. As the guys are one week from our game, and also to have an experience like this makes it home how beautiful an event it is it is great.
“It’ll give the gamers a enormous lift. The fantasy was supposed to turn the city reddish and we have done this.”
Jones, who helped build links between the Welsh Rugby Union and Kitakyushu, included:”If you look back on things in your career, setting this has been magnificent.
“Seeing the players when they arrived in the welcome party the other night, and seeing their faces here, they didn’t comprehend it.
“They have not seen anything like this and they will remember it forever. I know we’ll be back and long may it continue.”
