It’s official: professional baseball is coming to Seattle. The NHL board of governors voted Tuesday to approve the growth program for its NHL Seattle group to bring a group into the league to the 2021-22 season.
The announcement was expected for quite a while since it has been no secret that the league has been actively looking for a home for its 32nd team. Whenever the Seattle club begins play, It Is Going to join the Pacific Division, together with the Arizona Coyotes moving in the Pacific into the Central Division. There are seven squads in the Central.
Totems projected as the likeliest team name If it comes to the title for Seattle’s new NHL franchise, BetOnline has released chances for the event. The sportsbook has tabbed Totems as the -105 favored, together with Emeralds (+400), Rainiers (+700), Sockeyes (+700) and Kraken (+700) topping the list.
The team will play at Seattle Center Arena, since the former KeyArena is scheduled to get a privately financed $800-million renovation. The stadium opened in 1962 and was the home of the NBA’s Seattle SuperSonics before them moving to Oklahoma City in 2008.
With 2 teams in the four major North American pro sports leagues currently in Seattle (the NFL’s Seattle Seahawks and the MLB’s Seattle Mariners), it was a no-brainer for the NHL to deliver a group there, especially after the overwhelming victory of the latest expansion franchise, the Vegas Golden Knights. There’s no shortage of interest encircling baseball in Washington, as a season-ticket deposit driveway was held with the possible ownership group on March 1 and also secured 32,000 deposits at the initial 31 hours.
